Founded in 1565 as a Spanish military outpost, St. Augustine’s rich and colorful history is at the forefront on St. George Street. Visit the Pena-Peck House, which was constructed in 1750 by order of the King of Spain and remains one of the finest surviving First Spanish Period homes in the area. Guided tours are available seven days a week. Next, check out the Oldest Wooden School House. Located near the City Gates, the house was built more than 200 years ago out of cedar and cypress wood and offers a glimpse of school life in Spanish Colonial times. There’s also the Cathedral Basilica, located between St. George and Charlotte Streets. This beautiful historic landmark is the oldest church in Florida.
