Whether you’ve explored the American Prohibition Museum on your own on a self-guided tour or you’ve never visited us at all, the guided tour through our museum is sure to expand your knowledge about this incredible time in American history.
You’ll be introduced to your guide, dressed in period-accurate attire, who will bring you all the way back to early 1900s America as the nation grapples with the “liquor problem.” A massive cultural and political movement to banish alcohol has sprung up and taken the country by storm. How did we get to a point where we were willing to ban alcohol and what is life like throughout those dry years? That’s the story your guide is “jazzed” to tell you.
Along with the story of the 18th Amendment come a whole cast of characters of crusaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs. Hear all about Carry Nation’s one-woman war on the saloon. You’ll meet Temperance champion, Lillian M.N. Stevens, and her enemy, baron of all things beer, Adolphus Busch. Of course, no Prohibition experience is complete without facing the one and only Al Capone. All these famous faces and more will be brought to life by your guide.
At the conclusion of your tour, you’ll find yourself in the middle of a bustling recreated speakeasy and, as part of your ticket, you’ll be able to enjoy one pre-1930 cocktail or, for our non-drinkers, a handcrafted “mocktail.”
