Located at the gateway to the Upper Gaslamp Quarter, Horton Plaza Park combines uncommon historical Landmarks with fun, contemporary amenities to create a unique urban square in the heart of Downtown San Diego. The elegant U.S. Grant Hotel, Spreckels and Balboa Theatres, and other buildings from a bygone era mix with restaurants, gift shops, and retail stores of the present day. The beautifully restored Broadway Fountain from 1910 contrasts with a modern interactive pop-jet fountain, which made its debut in 2016. The park is named for Alonzo Horton, the original developer of this area, which was known during his time as “New Town” San Diego.
