The USS Cassin Young is a Fletcher-class destroyer named after Cassin Young, who was awarded the Medal of Honor after Pearl Harbor and later killed in the naval battle of Guadalcanal. The ship was launched in 1943 and after training served in the Central Pacific, the Philippines, and Japan. The USS Cassin Young was placed in reserve in 1960 and became a memorial ship in 1974. The ship is berthed in the Boston Navy Yard across from the USS Constitution and serves as an example type of ship built during WWII.
